Classical Sparks is an annual outdoor event, featuring some of NZ's best musical act. This year, Classical Sparks welcomes Waitangi Day, NZ's national day, with a bang!

Last Thursday evening, my friends and I joined the extravagance at North Hagley Park. The open-air concert started with Haka, a traditional Maori dance. Haka is an official welcome ceremony serving the importance of the occasion. Then, it was followed by an international historical equestrian performance.

Families enjoying the evening.

Christchurch Symphony Orchestra starred the first half of the evening. There are trumpet, violin... solo performances. They were awesome! The musics were perfectly harmonized. For a moment, I've an urge to learn violin. Hehe!

Live classical music.

The second half featuring Showbiz Christchurch brought surprises to the audiences. The musical theater hit the stage with singing, dancing, lighting, and a variety of costumes. There are Mamma Mia, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeny Todd, Rocky Horrow Show... even some preview of Miss Saigon! I heart musical live performances!

Mamma Mia.

Phantom of the Opera.

All stars.

Accompanied by The William Tell Overture, played by Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the evening was wrapped up with with fireworks finale. This was one of the best fireworks I've ever watched, especially when the music liven up the atmosphere. It made the breathtaking fireworks even more spectacular!

An apple, before being shot by an arrow.

Fireworks begun.

Pheewwww...

Booom...

I throughly enjoyed the show. It was one of the best live performance I've witnessed. Hopefully, there're more similar events like this! :D
